Kickstarter is a phenomenon. For a long while now, I have been watching to see the next amazing product to be kicked up from out of nowhere. I would typically sit back and watch the successes and failures. 3D printers such as the form1 have typically gathered my attention as of recent. However, I have never really felt the burning desire to make a pledge of my own.
Until the other day when I came across the 3Doodler. The World’s first 3D printing pen. It was such a simple, yet amazing idea. Take a glue gun and instead of using glue, use 3D printing plastic, add a few knobs and buttons and presto – a 3D printing pen. This, I thought to myself was true innovation. Take something that already exists, improve it, add a twist and then sell it to a new market, a market that would go crazy for such a contraption.
And everyone did go crazy. In just under two weeks, the 3Doodler has amassed 21,000 backers and nearly $2,000,000 of funds. Impressive. Very impressive.
As a result, I’ve now backed my first kickstarter project, the 3Doodler is fully funded. I’m waiting for it to arrive at the end of the year. I’m looking forward to using it in my concepts and designs.
