Friday 16th December marked the final Tribalism for 2011 and also my one year anniversary for performing at the event.As always the air was electric, the drums were thunderous and the people were left wanting more.
After a long break, we got the band back together so to speak, for some more hot Djembe ryhthms at Tribalism August 2011. Held in St Kilda at the Tongue and Groove, we were loud and kept the pace cranking. It was a big turn out and a fun night as usual.
My group and I performed Baga Ginea. The other students performed their songs, the African Dancing girls did their thing, Sackey had a solo dance off and Ouaga owned it at the end of the night. Read more
This is the Sunu Rhythm. It was an interesting one because it seems like a fairly easy tune to play, but once it gets going and the pace picks up it can be quite easy to fumble. Nevertheless we made it through to the end. As usual, it’s always heaps of fun playing live in concert. Read more
Here is a video of my djembe class and I playing the West African Sinte Rhythm which originates from the city of Boke. It’s a funky tune. Hope you like it. The intro is missing and of course it sounds much better live, but it still shows off how fun the night was.
